Narrow Identities

چکیده
Personal identity has many facets, as it involves race, language, personal interests, religion, and ethnicity, among other attributes. Yet all over the world individuals and groups seek to define themselves in exclusive terms. This paper develops a simple model of individual incentives and group interests to explain this puzzle. ∗Faculty of Economics, University of Cambridge. †Faculty of Economics, University of Cambridge. Transient-Time Fractional-Space Trigonometry and Application
In this work, we use the generalized exponential function in the fractional-order domain to define generalized cosine and sine functions. We then re-visit some important trigonometric identities and generalize them from the narrow integer-order subset to the more general fractional-order domain. It is clearly shown that trigonometric functions and trigonometric identities in the transient-time ...
متن کاملLearning, identity and classroom dialogue
The classroom can be understood as the site of various forms of dialogical interaction. Taken together, engagement in such dialogues results in experiences for students that can impact positively or negatively on their personal and social identities. While the research literature acknowledges this in various ways, there is potential for a research programme more explicitly focused on how differ...
متن کاملI'm No Longer a Child: A Closer Look at the Interaction Between Iranian EFL University Students' Identities and Their Academic Performance
Although university EFL students represent a wide array of social and cultural identities, their multiple and diverse identities are not usually considered in foreign language classrooms. This qualitative case study attempted to examine identity conflicts experienced by Iranian EFL learners at the university context. To this end, two Shiraz University students' identities were investigated. Sem...
متن کاملFragmented, Hybrid, and Diasporic Identities in Hanif Kureishi’s The Buddha of Suburbia
The processes of cultural transformation in Britain in the second half of the 20th century, the fall of the Empire, immigration from former colonies and the expansion of the multiculturalism, have influenced new ways of looking at the conceptions of identity of diasporic subjects within Britain. Examining these experiences, diasporic novelists write about the second generation immigrants in con...
متن کاملThe Role of Social and Place Identities towards Promoting Sustainability Approaches and Behaviors
The concept of sustainability is encouraged to preserve natural resources, social values, cultural heritage, and economic capital, which already exist to make available them for the next generations. Moreover, to enhance the level of sustainability in communities, numerous scholars indicated both individual and community identities play a crucial role. Sustainability is attainable and successfu...
متن کاملMoments Match between the KPZ Equation and the Airy Point Process
The results of Amir–Corwin–Quastel, Calabrese–Le Doussal–Rosso, Dotsenko, and Sasamoto–Spohn imply that the one-point distribution of the solution of the KPZ equation with the narrow wedge initial condition coincides with that for a multiplicative statistics of the Airy determinantal random point process. Taking Taylor coefficients of the two sides yields moment identities. We provide a simple ...
